vert-logo.gif (3124 bytes) Fasting has a bad reputation these days. Some medical people tell us it's dangerous. Most people who try it have an uncomfortable experience with it.

Fasting is not a part of our culture in America. We're not used to it. We don't understand it's benefits or how to go about it in a safe, comfortable way. But several of the older cultures have used fasting continuously since ancient times for spiritual focus, as a part of their medical treatment, or as a self care techniques to improve health.

After studying over 20 different approaches to fasting, in several countries, we came across an approach to fasting that is completely safe and comfortable for anyone to use, regardless of their state of health. It causes no hunger, no symptoms and completely avoids the so called "healing crisis" that many "experts" claim is necessary during detoxification and cleansing programs.

This approach focuses on how fasting affects our Systemic Function, thus the name Systemic Fasting. The Systemic Health Principles provide a way of monitoring our physical and emotional response to the fast to make sure it's always safe, comfortable and effective.

Properly done, Systemic Fasting does two important things. It detoxifies the body and it corrects poor digestion.

The first 3 hours that we digest a meal, our digestive system uses about 60% of our body's available energy. When we fast, that energy is available for the body to use for cleaning up and discharging toxins. Short, but frequent fasts, over a period of time, gradually detoxify the body in a slow, safe, comfortable way.

Years of processed foods, or overeating, or eating too often can gradually overburden and weaken the digestive system. The glands and organs that produce digestive fluids become weakened and can't produce the fluids in the normal volume or potency. Foods are not digested properly. Nutrients can't be absorbed properly, which leads to nutritional deficiencies and a host of health problems.

Also, the biochemical environment of the digestive tract is compromised, which can lead to candidiasis, excess intestinal permeability (leaky gut), infection and other digestive problems. These in turn can lead to many health problems. Gradual resting of the digestive system with a series of gentle, short fasts, over a period of time, can correct digestive fatigue and its aliments.
